Taking the First Step to Achieve your Dreams
Do you have a dream deep in your heart that you want to achieve?
Have you taken the first step to achieve your dream? It is said that first step is perhaps one of the most difficult. But, once you take the first step, everything else follows!!
I realized this during one of my recent trips to a Hill Station. I want to share my dramatic experience with you, which helped me realize that it is only the first step that’s difficult. Once you take it, other steps will become easier !!
THE DRAMATIC EXPERIENCE:
I had gone their with 30 of my college friends and a team of corporate trainers
On the second day of our trip, the corporate trainers took us near a mountain. We were standing near the bottom of a mountain. Approximately 300 feet above us, we saw a person standing, waiting for us. He was one of the corporate trainers.
We were told that we had to climb down that mountain (300 feet) with the help of a rope. ( It is called Rappelling) It was so damn scary, how the hell could we do it? I was afraid to do that, not just me, I could read many of my friends’ faces, even they were scared too. But none of us wanted to say – “I will not do it”, you see – Peer pressure.
On top of this, I was the among the first few to be called by the corporate trainers to climb down the mountain.
When I reached that spot from where we had to climb down, I saw down, All of my friends were looking as tiny as an ant. You can’t even imagine how scary it was. The corporate trainer standing there helped me in wearing safety equipments. Although I had worn them, I was very very scared.
I saw down again, I told him it seems very difficult. He said – “Try, you can do it” As soon as I took my first step, my legs started trembling, Frankly speaking, I was very afraid, What else can you expect from a person who had never done something like this before…. it was too tough for me.
After taking a few more steps, I began to feel more confident. Whoa !! It seemed easier, in the next few seconds I had climbed down the mountain. I had climbed down 100 feet!! Yipppieee, I had accomplished that Goliath looking task. Yeah.
THE REALIZATION:
Just then – I realized that when we are trying something new, It is only the first step that seems difficult. May be we are afraid of it because we have not done something similar before….But once we take the first step, we realize that we can do it, things start seeming easier, we start gaining confidence and we feel more motivated to accomplish that task.
That’s why I am saying : Once you take the first step, other steps will become easier for you.
So, Don’t just wait to do it later; Don’t listen to others who say you can’t do it. Don’t think you will not be able to do it, Try building up some faith in yourself and – Just go for it. Take the first step and other steps will seem easier.
Have you faced any such situation before, What are your thoughts about the whole story I just told you ? I would love to know your feelings in the comments

Taking first steps when the odds are against you or the prize is great is always scary. That goes for everyone. Most of us manage to overcome the fear and do it for many things although there may be that one thing that stays out of reach because the fear is just too strong.
Fear of failure is probably the biggest fear of all and the usual reason people don’t take that first step towards — college degree, financial freedom, self employment, self improvement — you name it. Having someone who supports you when you make the decision to take the first step is so important, but if we’re truly honest with ourselves, it’s not THE most important thing.
THE most important thing is swallowing that fear, that self doubt and plunging over the side of the cliff or off the diving board.
Here’s to you and first steps. Let’s hope you can make all the ones you need to in your life.

As for dreams, though, I’m afraid I still need to get going on those. Thanks for the inspirational story.

I use to have many fears that restricted my ability to fully enjoy life. I now look at life as an open adventure in which anything is possible if you take that first step.
My biggest fear was heights. I hated anything high. I live near the Thousand Island Bridge going from New York to Canada. My wife and I love to travel to Canada but my fear of heights always made me dread driving over that bridge. Whenever I did the drive. I was so tense that I made myself ill. One day, I said screw it and I just drove over it with no fear at all. I have made the trip many times since and I no longer fear that or even heights now.
Hope you enjoyed your plunge and you have many more to come!

Well,we all are comfortable with first steps for a thing we love but when it comes to things we don’t like,it’s important to push yourself forward giving it a small thought.

I run a Disney auditions blog and I’m often asked by young hopefuls, “how can I accomplish such an enormous task?” My reply is always a simple…
