The Positive Life

Secret of cultivating a positive attitude

by Raj on October 9, 2008

Have you ever wondered how some people become successful and they keep riding the stairs of success?

They use a technique called Autosuggestions. Autosuggestions (or Affirmations) are suggestions or thoughts we keep giving ourselves throughout the day.

These can be negative or positive.

Example of negative autosuggestions

I am tired.

I have a bad memory.

i can do it2 Secret of cultivating a positive attitude

I cant remember names.

I am unlucky.

Why do bad things always happen to me ?

Example Of positive autosuggestions

I am happy.

Life is good !!

Good Things always happen to me.

I am so lucky !!

I am the best in whatever I do.

When we give ourselves an autosuggestion (either positive or negative), our subconscious mind starts believing it, and it makes our thought a reality. Now, you know this wonderful power, don’t you think you can use it your advantage by giving yourself positive autosuggestions ?

So, how do you do that ??? Follow P P 21 Success Rule

First P means : Present Tense

Your autosuggestions should be in present tense.

Example. If you want to be a good public speaker, then instead of saying – I will be a good speaker, say: I am a fantastic speaker and am improving day by day.

Second P means : Positive Phrasing

Do not phrase your autosuggestions in a negative way.

Example. If you want to be rich, then don’t say to yourself – I will not remain poor anymore.

Instead, say – I am becoming richer with each passing day. Or I am becoming better in my business with each passing day.

This small exercise will help you understand this more clearly.

Now, whatever I will say, try to imagine that.

Do not, Do not think about red colored monkeys.

Do not imagine red colored monkeys fighting with each other.

Do not imagine a red colored monkey hitting a blue colored monkey.

I bet you saw red colored monkeys, That’s the way our brain functions. So, always phrase your autosuggestions in a positive way.

21 means :

If you give yourself positive autosuggestions repeatedly for 21 days, your subconscious mind will make it as true and you would be able to achieve all that you ever wanted to achieve in your life. The important aspect is – that you should tell yourself positive autosuggestions repeatedly. & you will start noticing the difference in your behavior within a week.

Now, it’s up to you to have faith in yourself and start believing positive.

Because

If you think, you can do it.

Even the Bible says:

If you have faith, everything shall be possible to you.

Scientifically our brain requires 21 days to create or break a habit.

That is why, If you affirm something continuously for 21 days, you will create it as a habit :)

It’s important to be positive. Research behind a concept called the AIR Equation shows that inspiration accounts for 28% of happiness.

Thanks for your nice informative article. From now onward I will use positive autosuggestions about myself. To be honest I was totally on negative autosuggestions about my self.

Great article, I love your writing and the easy, concise way you put things! The best part is, the more you become aware of your thoughts, the easier it is to change them more quickly from a negative autosuggestion to a positive one. Keep this blog going!!

I learnt this technique first from Law of Success (Napoleon Hill)…

Have used it … and it must say.. that it keeps you going..

Raj.. if you’re interested in books… an all time classic is “AS A MAN THINKETH” .. just google this book and you’ll get it for free as a download.. I personally think that because of this book, the self help industry took birth

I consider it is the mother of all self help books…

Cheers

Hi Raj,

Great article on positive/negative autosuggestion. It reminds me of affirmations and guided imagery. I write a lot about the topic as well.

I would say a great challenge is becoming aware of our negative thoughts as we have a tendancy to get swept away in them and forget how to get out.

Happy Thinking

Sarah
